In Need of Bi-Lingual Music Therapists

In 2021 a record number 147,000 youth from Central America traveled alone to cross the Mexico-US border. Youth are fleeing extreme poverty and violence. Once in the US youth are placed in shelters with access to health and legal services to help them on their journey to find their family in the US.

In June 2021 Christy answered a call to help these unaccompanied migrant youth by starting a music therapy program at one of the shelters in Texas. To date more than 36,000 youth have stayed at the shelter and benefited from music therapy! To meet the growing need for this type of support more bi-lingual music therapists are needed.

Scholarship @ SHSU

Christy and Holly have established the Musicoterapia Scholarship at Sam Houston State University with the goal of supporting 8 bi-lingual music therapy students over the next four years. Each scholarship provides $5,000 to cover tuition costs. Two scholarships will be awarded each year starting in fall 2022. Meet the 2022-2023 Musicoterapia Scholarship recipients!

Your donation will help us reach our goal of raising a total of $40,000 to fully fund the scholarship. Christy and Holly have made an initial donation of $10,000 to ensure the first year’s scholarships. All funds go directly to bi-lingual, first generation, music therapy students to help pay their tuition at SHSU. Your donation is made directly to SHSU and is tax deductible.
